Ageing results in changes along the upper, middle and lower face (reference "Anatomy of Ageing Face",
V Ilankovan British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2014).
The mid face changes are corrected by Facelift. The common problems Facelift Surgeons face are descent of the malar and buccal fat pads, increased prominence of the nasolabial folds, the jowls and the pre jowl deformity.
The aim here is to counteract the aging problems by a surgical process and at the same time to provide an un-operated outcome.
Standard incisions are made, skin flaps are raised, the second layer called SMAS is identified and elevated. The elevated SMAS is anchored in a superior vector fashion to the temporalis fascia. Superior vector plication also augment the cheek projection.
The skin is draped in a posterio lateral fashion and after trimming the excess the repair is carried out in a layered approach.
The described modifications are Mini Facelift, Lower Facelift, Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS) and "S" Lift. A separate lateral brow lift also would improve malar prominence and correct "crows feet" lines.
Traditionally facelifts are always carried out under general anaesthetic with a hospital stay for one to two days. Although it is still a possibility, patients prefer to minimise interruptions, side effects and expenditure and at the same time an outcome of an un-operated look, with no tell tale signs.
We provide a whole spectrum of facelift surgery, under both general and local anaesthetic. The general anaesthetic procedures are carried out in two private hospitals in Dorset and at The Harley Street Clinic, London.
Our Surgeon, Professor Ilankovan, has developed various novel techniques in facelift surgery. To find out more please contact us to make an appointment for a consultation.
90% of our aesthetic procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic.
